How to Build a Shopify Store in Pakistan (2025 Guide)

A complete step-by-step guide to launching your Shopify store in Pakistan — from account creation and theme selection to payment gateways, shipping, and your very first sale.

Online shopping in Pakistan has moved from a novelty to a habit. Clothing, cosmetics, home decor, electronics accessories and food products are now bought every day through Instagram pages, WhatsApp and online stores. If you sell products — or want to — a proper online store gives you something a social media page never can: a place you own, where customers can browse your full range, place orders at any hour and come back again without having to message you first.

Shopify is one of the most popular ways to build that store. It is a hosted platform, which means you do not have to worry about servers, security patches or software updates. You pay a monthly subscription and Shopify handles the technical side, leaving you free to focus on products, marketing and customers. This guide walks through every step of building a Shopify store for the Pakistani market, from signing up to getting your first orders, along with the local details that general guides usually miss.

Before You Start: Plan Your Store

The biggest mistakes on new stores happen before a single product is uploaded. Spend an hour answering a few questions first, and the rest of the build becomes much faster. Still deciding on a platform? Our WordPress vs Shopify comparison will help.

  • What exactly are you selling, and who is your ideal customer? A store selling bridal jewellery to women aged 25–35 looks and sounds very different from one selling phone accessories to students.
  • Where will your customers be? Selling only in Lahore, across Pakistan, or to overseas Pakistanis in the UK, UAE and Saudi Arabia changes your shipping, payment and pricing setup.
  • How will you fulfil orders? Will you keep stock at home, use a warehouse, or work with a supplier who ships directly?
  • What is your margin after product cost, courier charges, payment fees and returns? Many new stores price too low and discover they lose money on every Cash on Delivery order that is refused.
  • What makes you different? Better quality, faster delivery, a specific style, local manufacturing or excellent customer service — decide what your store will be known for.
💡

Tip: write your answers down in one page. You will reuse them for your About page, product descriptions and your first ad campaigns.

Step 1: Create Your Shopify Account

Go to shopify.com and start a trial using your business email address. Shopify usually offers a free trial followed by a low-cost introductory period, but the exact offer changes from time to time, so check the current details on Shopify's pricing page. During sign-up you will be asked for your store name, what you plan to sell and where your business is located. Choose Pakistan as your business location so your store defaults to Pakistani Rupees and local tax settings.

Your store name becomes your temporary web address (for example, yourbrand.myshopify.com). You can connect your own domain later, so do not worry if the name you want is already taken on Shopify. What matters more is that your brand name is short, easy to spell and available as a domain and on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.

Step 2: Choose and Customise Your Theme

Your theme controls how your store looks and how customers move through it. Shopify's free themes, such as Dawn, are fast, mobile-friendly and well maintained, which makes them a sensible starting point for most new stores. Premium themes from the Shopify Theme Store add features like advanced filtering, mega menus and lookbooks, and are worth considering once you have a larger catalogue.

  • Prioritise mobile design. Most Pakistani shoppers browse on their phones, often on mobile data, so test every page on a phone before you launch.
  • Keep the homepage focused: a clear banner, your best-selling collections, trust signals (Cash on Delivery, delivery time, easy returns) and a few customer reviews.
  • Use your brand colours and fonts consistently, but avoid heavy animations and huge images that slow the store down.
  • Only buy themes from the official Shopify Theme Store. Pirated or 'free premium' themes from random websites can contain malicious code and will not receive updates. Our website security guide explains why.

Step 3: Add Your Products Properly

Product pages are where buying decisions happen, so they deserve the most attention. A customer who cannot touch or try your product relies entirely on your photos and description.

Product photos

Use clear, well-lit photos on a clean background, plus lifestyle images showing the product in use. Show the product from several angles and include close-ups of fabric, stitching, texture or packaging. Keep image sizes consistent across your catalogue so collection pages look tidy, and compress images before uploading so pages load quickly.

Titles and descriptions

Write titles the way customers search, for example 'Embroidered Lawn 3-Piece Suit — Unstitched' rather than a vague code. In the description, answer the questions people would otherwise ask you on WhatsApp: size, material, care instructions, what is included, delivery time and return policy. Short paragraphs and bullet points are easier to read on a phone than long blocks of text.

Variants, inventory and collections

Use variants for sizes and colours instead of creating separate products, and turn on inventory tracking so you never sell stock you do not have. Group products into collections that match how customers shop — by category, occasion, price range or new arrivals — and link those collections from your main menu.

Step 4: Set Up Payment Methods for Pakistan

Payments are where Pakistan differs most from the guides written for the US or UK. Shopify's own payment system is not available to Pakistan-based businesses, so you will combine Cash on Delivery with local and international options.

  • Enable Cash on Delivery from Settings → Payments → Manual payment methods. It costs nothing to switch on and is what most first-time buyers expect.
  • Add at least one online payment option so customers who prefer to pay upfront are not forced into COD.
  • Check each provider's transaction fees, settlement time and payout schedule, as these directly affect your cash flow.
  • Make sure your business registration and documents match what the provider requires before you apply, to avoid delays in approval.
  • Show accepted payment methods clearly on product pages and in the footer so customers know their options before checkout.

Cash on Delivery will likely be the majority of your early orders because it removes the customer's fear of paying for something that never arrives. The downside is refused deliveries, which cost you courier charges both ways. Reduce this by confirming every COD order by phone or WhatsApp before dispatch, and consider offering a small discount or free delivery for prepaid orders to gradually move customers towards online payment.

For card and wallet payments, several Pakistani payment providers offer Shopify integrations. Fees, onboarding requirements and supported features vary, so compare current terms and read reviews from other merchants before choosing one. Whatever you pick, place test orders yourself before launch to make sure money actually reaches your account.

Step 5: Configure Shipping and Delivery

Fast, reliable delivery is one of the strongest reasons customers come back. Pakistan has several established courier companies, including TCS, Leopards, M&P, PostEx, Trax, BlueEx and Call Courier, and many of them offer Shopify apps or portals that let you book shipments and track parcels directly from your orders.

  • Create shipping zones for your city, major cities and the rest of Pakistan, with rates that reflect what couriers actually charge you.
  • Offer free delivery above a minimum order value. It encourages customers to add one more item to reach the threshold.
  • State realistic delivery times on product pages and at checkout. Under-promising and delivering early builds far more trust than the reverse.
  • Send customers their tracking number by SMS, email or WhatsApp as soon as the parcel is booked.
  • Track your COD return rate by courier and by city. If one courier or region has unusually high returns, adjust your process.

Step 6: Install Only the Apps You Need

The Shopify App Store has thousands of apps, and it is tempting to install many of them. Every app adds a little weight to your store, and paid apps add monthly costs, so start with the essentials and add more only when you have a clear reason.

  1. 1Product reviews — social proof is especially important for new brands. Ask early customers for photo reviews.
  2. 2WhatsApp chat button — lets customers ask quick questions without leaving the store.
  3. 3COD order confirmation — automates the confirmation step and reduces fake or impulsive orders.
  4. 4Courier integration — books shipments and syncs tracking numbers automatically.
  5. 5Email and SMS marketing — for abandoned cart reminders, order updates and new arrival announcements.

Step 7: Connect Your Own Domain

A custom domain such as yourbrand.pk or yourbrand.com looks far more trustworthy than a myshopify.com address. You can buy a .com from any international registrar or directly through Shopify, while .pk domains are registered through PKNIC-approved resellers. Once purchased, connect it from your Shopify admin under Settings → Domains and set it as your primary domain. Shopify provides a free SSL certificate, so your store will load securely over HTTPS.

Step 8: Prepare the Pages Customers Expect

Before launch, create the supporting pages that answer common questions and build confidence. Shopify can generate templates for some policies, but edit them so they reflect how your business actually works.

  • About Us — who you are, why you started, and what makes your products different.
  • Contact — phone number, WhatsApp, email and business hours.
  • Shipping Policy — delivery areas, charges and expected delivery times.
  • Return and Exchange Policy — how many days, which items qualify and who pays for return delivery.
  • Privacy Policy and Terms of Service — how you use customer data and the terms of purchase.
  • FAQ — answers to the questions you receive most often on WhatsApp.

Step 9: Test Everything Before Launch

Place several test orders using each payment method, on both mobile and desktop. Check that confirmation emails are correct, that stock levels update, that shipping rates calculate properly for different cities and that the store loads quickly on a mobile connection. Ask a few friends to browse the store and tell you honestly where they got confused. Fixing these problems before launch is far cheaper than losing your first customers to them.

Step 10: Launch and Market Your Store

A store without visitors makes no sales, so plan your launch marketing in advance. Most successful Pakistani stores combine several channels rather than relying on one.

  1. 1Facebook and Instagram ads — start with a modest daily budget, test several products and creatives, and scale what works.
  2. 2TikTok — short videos showing products in real use are very effective for discovery, especially for fashion, beauty and gadgets.
  3. 3WhatsApp — share new arrivals with existing customers who have opted in, and answer questions quickly.
  4. 4Instagram organic content — consistent Reels, behind-the-scenes posts and customer photos build trust over time.
  5. 5Google Search and Shopping — capture people already searching for what you sell, and invest in SEO for long-term traffic.
  6. 6Influencer collaborations — micro-influencers with engaged local audiences often deliver better results than large accounts.

Planning Your Store Budget

Every store's budget looks different, depending on your products, the plan you choose, the apps you rely on and how aggressively you market. Rather than spending heavily on day one, start lean, measure what works and reinvest profits into the areas that bring real sales. For a wider view of pricing, see how much a website costs in Pakistan.

  • Platform and domain — your Shopify subscription and custom domain are fixed recurring costs, so factor them in from the start.
  • Design — a free theme is often enough to launch. Upgrade to a premium theme or custom design once you have steady orders.
  • Apps — install only what solves a real problem today, and review your app list every few months to cancel anything unused.
  • Marketing — keep a separate, consistent advertising budget and track the cost of each sale, not just clicks or likes.
  • Operations — include courier charges, packaging, payment processing fees and returned COD parcels when calculating profit per order.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Launching with poor product photos copied from suppliers or competitors — they hurt trust and can create copyright problems.
  • Skipping COD confirmation calls, which leads to high return rates and wasted courier fees.
  • Installing too many apps, slowing the store and increasing monthly costs.
  • Ignoring mobile testing, even though most visitors arrive on phones.
  • Spending the whole marketing budget on one channel before testing what works for your products.
  • Not replying to customer messages quickly — slow replies are one of the most common reasons buyers move to another store.

Final Tips for Long-Term Success

Treat your first few months as a learning phase. Watch which products sell, which cities order most, where customers drop off in the checkout and which ads bring profitable orders rather than just clicks. Keep improving your product pages, collect reviews from every happy customer and build a list of repeat buyers you can reach without paying for ads.
